These two Buff Orpington hens have spent most of the season brooding in the coop, even though we have turfed them out 3 or 4 times a day they always returned to brood and we were losing the will to live with them!!!
Meanwhile, we hatched 18 of our own hens at the beginning of the year they are now 11 weeks old and have been supported to mix with the big flock (this involved long transition processes and ensuring supportive weather conditions). Anyway having them about meant the broody hens seem to have adopted them as their own, snuggling together, eating together, and genuinely just being good parents! A Mommy and Mama who are taking to parenting like ducks to water! I love the buff Orpington Breed and this motherly trait suits them so well!
