Today was a day of writing and making burgers!

My 7-year-old helped with the burgers and although he didn't mind mixing the onions and the crackers, I think the added addition of the mince and tomato puree left him a little disgusted 'Ergh! It looks like blood spurting out!' He also opted to not have a cheese slice 'Erm.... is that the fake cheese, that's processed... no thanks'... Seems watching 'What our kids eat' on BBC has had an impact.

Anyway, the recipe was very simple!

Finely chop onions in a bowl then whiz up some crackers in the food processor until fine or very small lumps. Mix both in a bowl, then add:

1 Duck egg

1 packet of minced beef

1 tbsp Tomato Puree

(the 7-year-old added a dash of balsamic vinegar at this point and it worked fine)

1 tsp of Dijon mustard

a bit of pepper.

Squash all together and then 'pat into patties'. We purchased egg rings a few years ago for frying our eggs in, they keep the eggs circular and although they don't work brilliantly for the eggs they are great for shaping your burgers!

Then line a baking tray with parchment and lightly spray with oil, place burgers on there and spray the tops with oil. You can normally pop in the fridge to help them set but due to time running out I just popped them in the oven at 180 degrees (fan oven) for 20 mins (checked them) then 10 mins (checked and flipped over) then 10 minutes and that worked well! The buns were brioche buns lightly toasted under the grill. Alexa is a lifesaver in times like these!

Assembly included the bottom of the toasted brioche, then 4 slices of gherkin, English mustard, 'The Burger', Processed cheese slice (or if you have a picky child a slice of dutch smoked cheddar should do it), Ketchup, and a sliced Beef Steak Tomato. The three-year-old said 'Well done papa! The best dinner ever!!!' (she also said that about pea and ham soup but never mind :-)

So that was dinner! Of course, I did the rounds of feeding the poultry and the Jersey Giant chicks that I am itching to get outside, a bit of weeding, and sat down in front of the computer to do some writing today. I have decided to write a book, though to be fair I have started 5 different books. So I sat with a coffee and wrote a bit of one of them and started another, just a couple of hours each while I had some time on my hands. I am pleased to say that one book is now sitting at 3996 words! Only about 26000 to go then! I will keep you updated! It does seem that at certain times I sit and blast out a thousand words and then I don't touch it for weeks .... maybe something I need to work on!
